Top 200 Places: Sandia Man Cave

Tuesday, September 11th, 2012

Sandia Man Cave
Cibola National Forest
Placitas,
New Mexico
505-281-3304

Explore a cave with your dog. From the Highway 165 exit, go towards Placitas. The paved road ends and becomes an unimproved mountain road as you enter Cibola National Forest. The road is fairly rough and muddy and becomes frozen as you reach the 7-8000 foot elevation. The parking area is unmarked but it is the only one around. After paying a $3 parking fee walk north out of the parking lot and take a 10 minute hike up a wide and fairly easy, flat trail. Take a flashlight with you because not much of cave will be visible in daylight. Dogs on leash may go with you to the caves.
