WOOF Cottages on Nantucket give back!

Friday, March 4th, 2011

Staying at the WOOF Cottages on Nantucket isn’t just a great way to vacation with “man’s best friend” – it’s also a way to support less fortunate pups, as The Cottages donates 10% of all pet fees to the local Nantucket MSPCA Adoption Center. The Cottages & Lofts at the Boat Basin are proud to announce that they donated $1,099.50 from the 2010 season to the animal care non-profit on behalf of their guests and guests’ “best friends.”

“It is important for us to protect the animals of our community,” said Jim Storey, the general manager of The Cottages, who is also the owner of two English Labrador Retrievers named Sherwood and Forrest. The WOOF Cottages charges a $60 – $75 pet fee per stay, depending on the length of the visit.

The WOOF Cottages are 12 specially designated one- and two-bedroom cottages for guests with pets and are part of The Cottages & Lofts at the Boat Basin, a Nantucket Island Resorts property. Dogs and cats are welcome and treated like royalty, with Draper Canine beds, a welcome basket of treats and play toys, food and water bowls, litter and litter boxes, dog walking services, and personalized pet tags. Owners get a list of pet-friendly attractions on the island to make the most of their vacation.

The Cottages were recently honored by Condé Nast Traveler in the2010 Reader’s Choice Awards as the #7 Top Small Hotel in the United States. In addition, the property was one of the few to receive a score of 100 points in that magazine’s 2011 Gold List, and as such secured the title of Best Resort Location in the United States.

The Nantucket Adoption Center is part of MSPCA-Angell, a national and international leader in animal protection and veterinary medicine that provides direct hands-on care for thousands of animals each year. The MSPCA-Angell is a private, non-profit organization that relies solely on the support and contributions of caring individuals.
