Bergen County New Jersey to open “pet-friendly” shelter at college

Bergen County Emergency Management officials will open a regional shelter at noon today in the gymnasium at Bergen Community College in Paramus for residents seeking a refuge from Hurricane Sandy.

The shelter can accommodate people with special needs and is “domestic pet-friendly.”

Residents are reminded to bring clothing for themselves and any relatives who are with them.

If they bring a pet, they are encouraged to bring a carrier case or crate as well as a leash, pet food, water bowl, any medications and waste bags.
