Disaster plans to include pets
More emphasis in future fires and other disasters will be placed on ensuring pets and their owners can be evacuated together to a safe location.
Speaking to village councilors Tuesday about the approaching wildfire season, Assistant Fire Chief Harlan Vincent said he has been working with Red Cross officials and others to ensure that all shelters and evacuation plans are correct.
“I’ve been making sure there are places for these people and their pets,” he said. “A lot won’t leave without their pets. This is the first year we’ve been real aggressive about pets. We’ve got some people coming in with lots of crates and we’re doing an assessment of the shelters in town, making sure they are pet friendly, so people don’t have to be separated from the pets.”
