Festivities include a pet parade and porch party
On Saturday, June 15, Harbor View Hotel and the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard will join forces for the fifth annual Celebration of Pets. Pet owners and animal lovers are encouraged to bring their furry, winged and scaly friends to congregate on Harbor View’s picturesque porch at 10 a.m., where they will be led by the Black Dog mascot in a parade around Edgartown Lighthouse. Upon returning to the porch, pets can enjoy treats, water and a “Blessing of the Animals,” which will be performed at 11 a.m. by Father Michael Nagle of the Good Shepherd Parish. All pet owners who attend can commemorate the day with a special ribbon that will be provided after the activities.
For traveling pet owners, Harbor View Hotel offers a VIP (Very Important Pup) pet-friendly policy that allows up to two dogs of any size for a charge of $50 per night, per dog. A special welcome amenity can be arranged for man’s best friend, including a ship’s wheel rope toy, clean-up baggies, all-natural treats, a coupon for nearby pet shop Good Dog Goods and a dog tag with hotel contact information, all for an added charge of $30. Guests can enjoy the island’s many dog-friendly spots, including Lighthouse Beach in Edgartown, State Forest’s trails and the Land Bank Tradewinds Airport ,which features a 70-acre dog park.
