Dog-Friendly Padre Island Beach

Corpus Christi is the deepest port in Texas. The port is home to the USS Lexington Air Craft Carrier. It is also the gateway to Padre Island National Seashore, with nearly 100 miles of pristine beachfront. Corpus Christi is a resort town with many beach going visitors. It is also dog-friendly with many dog-friendly beaches and activities.

There are many pet-friendly hotels in Corpus Christi. La Quinta has four dog-friendly hotels here and each of the other major chains has some hotels here as well. The Best Western on the Island, at 14050 South Padre Island Drive is pet friendly as is the Bayfront Inn at 601 North Shoreline Blvd. Other pet-friendly hotels are the Best Western Naval Station Inn in Ingleside and a number of Motel 6 and Studio 6 motels. If you are traveling to Corpus Christi with a motorhome or travel trailer then you have a number of choices in pet-friendly campgrounds. The Lake Corpus Christi/Mathis KOA in Mathis has a number of activities on site. Sea Breeze RV Park in Portland and Pioneer Beach Resort in Port Aransas are also choices with full hookups. If you are looking for tent camping there is the Padre Island National Seashore and Mustang Island State Park.

The tourists come to Corpus Christi for the beaches. So do dogs. Padre Island National Seashore is nearly 100 miles of undeveloped barrier island beach. 800,000 visitors per year come here. Dogs on leash are allowed throughout Padre Island National Seashore. It is about 45 minutes from Corpus Christi to the park. A closer beach park is Mustang Island State Park. This 3,954 acre barrier island park has 5 miles of beach. Dogs on leash are allowed in a few segments of these beaches. There is also a leash only beach in Cole Park in Corpus Christi. Aransas National Wildlife Refuge north of town is a 70,000 plus acre wilderness. Dogs must be on leash here and are only allowed on certain trails for their own safety. There are quite a few alligators in this park.

There are a few dog-friendly restaurants in town. The Sonic Drive In is one of our dogs favorites. Dotz Dawgs and Drafts is a 50s diner. You will also see antique cars here.

Other places that you may consider for a dog-friendly vacation near Corpus Christi include South Padre Island to the south and Galveston to the north.
