The place I want to recommend to pet owners is Buckskin Joe Frontier Town & Railway. This is on the road to the Royal Gorge outside of Canon City, Colorado. We were able to bring our Golden, Jasmine into the park. She could do everything we could which was so cool. She was able to ride the train, go into the shops and even eat in the bar with us. At the bar, they had a water dish for her and even some treats. This is truly a pet friendly attraction. We have been to other places where they say you can bring your dogs and then they end up in a kennel. At this place they could do everything we could, it was great. We will visit there again when we get the chance and would recommend it to any pet owners visiting Colorado!
I would like to recommend Pool’s Tavern in Northville, MI (about 1/2 hr from Detroit and Ann Arbor) as being a pet friendly restuarant. While you do have to sit at a table on the outside edge/fence of the patio if you bring your dog, the staff is very friendly and will bring your dog water. We once got caught in a rain shower with our German Shepherd while eating there, and they let him come into the enclosed area to sit under the umbrella and stay dry. Overall, all of the town of Northville is quite pet friendly, with several of the stores in town leaving out water bowls for pets, and some of them allowing Harry (our shepherd) to come into the stores while shopping during the winter months once they knew us.

St. Michaels in the beautiful Eastern Shore of Maryland. St. Michaels is a very pet friendly town. Currently there are two outside restaurants you can take your pet – Foxy’s Marina and the St. Michaels Crab and Steak House. We go to both on a regular basis with our west highland white terrier. Also, St. Michaels has a lot of nice little shops and store owners have water bowls out for thirsty pets. The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum allows pets on their grounds, but not in the buildings. This is a nice piece of property on the Miles River. Also, there are several hotels which are also pet friendly … so, St. Michaels is the perfect place for a day trip by car or boat!

Chances are that they will not remember you until they have a dog to attach you to. Well, maybe that’s a bit much but… I’ve been to 3 different Puppy Birthday Party’s there (which the bar sponsored complete with organic doggy cupcakes made by the owner Tina). The owners are awesome (their dog died recently and they haven’t had the heart to get a new one so they live vicariously), the food is some of the best pub grub ever, and dogs are treated like royalty (our dog literally has his own shot glass with his name on it… for WATER ONLY of course!)

The Harvest Cafe in New Paltz, NY offers patio seating for you and your pooch and even has a special doggie menu. They bring over a dish of water and then you can get either the chicken or steak entree for Fido, both with a milk bone appetizer and dessert. I love bringing my dog, Noodle, here for afternoon tea!

THere is a wonderful dog park in Montreal, QC. On the corner of Pine St. and Doc Penfield. It is huge with grass hills, a nice sitting area with benches and a water fountain for dogs and another for their owners. THere are always other dogs there to play with and sunshine as well as shade.
If you are living in or visiting Montreal, this is the place to go! It is fantastic.

Kataluma Chai Cafe has just opened in Old Towne Silverdale,WA. They have a “Pooch Porch” and a special doggie menu with bacon topped ice cream/whip cream or “pup corn” for your dog. Aunt Nancy makes the tastiest peanutbutter and carob dog biscuits ( smelling them will make your mouth water too) and soon she will be making Bow-Wow Wowsers Birthday cakes (liver frosting). They are located right next to the boat launch on Byron and McConnell. Yummy locally made chai and espresso and deli sandwiches for people too!
The Waffle is a restaurant that is open early and closes LATE! There is outdoor seating where your dog is immediately given a bowl of water. For humans, there are a LOT of different options – jalapeno waffles, bacon waffles, sticky bun waffles, and you can order a side of Woofles for your dog! My dog REALLY liked them.
A great dog-friendly campground – Balsam Woods Campground is located in the Moosehead Lake Region of Maine near Abbot Village. This very DOG-FRIENDLY RV campground has 115 acres of wooded property with many trails. It’s just 1/2 mile from one of Maine’s beautiful lakes and only 24 minutes from Moosehead Lake, Maine’s largest lake, which is home to Moosemania and an annual Internat’l Seaplane Fly-In. It is family fun at its best – ice cream socials, all-you-can-eat pancake breakfasts, free outdoor movies every Sat night, Xmas in July, Halloween in September, hayrides, in-ground heated swimming pool, recreation hall, etc. It’s nice when the whole family is welcome.

friendly rv park in weed, ca is VERY dog friendly. There is lots of grass for the pups and the owners love animals.
Bend Oregon has 6 new off-leash areas and the Big Sky was expanded. The leash restrictions have also been eased on Forest Service land.
We also have a dog friendly groomed ski trail at Wanoga Snow Park.

I would recommend visiting DoGone Fun! while in Chicago. They have a 20,000 sq foot building in the south loop, with a retail boutique, dog daycare, dog boarding, pet sitters, dog walkers, full groming services, training and much more! They have a large indoor and outdoor place for the dogs to play while the owners are away. There is also a webcam that you can watch at all times to see what your dog is up to.
I would like to recommend Milt’s Stop & Eat at Moab, Utah. address is 356 millcreek Dr, Moab, Utah. there is a nice outside patio area covered by big shady tree where dogs are welcomed. Water bowl is provided. They serve burgers, sandwiches, milkshakes, hotdog type of food.
There is off leash park in colorado springs, co on 21st street. bear creek regional park. some parts are leashed only and there are gated area for small dogs then bigger area for off leased voice controlled dog with alot of trails to walk thru.
Flatbreads restaurant in Portland, ME allows dogs on their outside deck. The food is excellent.
tybee jetski and watersports on tybee island georgia near savannah georgia is a dogfriendly watersports company. you can take your doggie or other pet on a boat ride or even jetski at no extra charge. even the lifejackets are provided.

Santa Monica, California offers a number of pet-friendly locations for locals and visitors with pets. There are a number of pet-friendly restaurants, hotels and boutiques along with four pet-friendly parks. When you walk the streets of this Southern California beach city, you will notice people with their pets everywhere and shops will even leave bowls of water out front. Santa Monica is a great beachside pet-friendly community!
The SPCA and the Humane Society here in Tampa Florida have a new “registration” procedure that allows you to qualify as a “dog friendly” business. It is a great program and there are more and more “yappy” hours taking place because of it.

Received from a reader – I hope you will advise your readers that while Ashland Oregon has a great dog park, the town itself is not dog friendly. No dog is ever allowed to touch the grass in a public park — in ANY public park — in the town of Ashland. If you are seen with your dog’s paws on the grass, you will be fined $250. While Ashland says it has lots of places for dogs to go, it really has only the one dog park. The other areas are very hard to find and rough going. I am 65, just fyi. I have a very old, infirm dog who is deaf and almost blind. She can still enjoy walks but can’t handle the rough areas. Walking with her through — not in — Lithia Park yesterday I was ticketed and given a fine of $250 – as mentioned above – for letting my old dog rest on the grass at the edge of the street, where I was standing. There is no sidewalk. The areas where dogs are not allowed are often unmarked. The police are aggressive — and you really should warn your readers that Ashland tries to look friendly to lure visitors, but it is not
Ocala, Fl used to be dog friendly and used to have two restuarants that allowed dogs at there outdoor dining areas. The city had even passed an ordinance that allowed restaurants to allow dogs. Apparently, that law expired after 2 years and the city told the two restaurants that they could no longer allow dogs. We are sorely disappointed as Inverness is very dog UNfriendly. I don’t know about the rest of Citrus County.
Just moved to Riverside County in California. Spent many hours trying to find an off leash dog park near our town of Canyon Lake. Finally found one the next town over in Menifee CA. Here are the details from the Menifee 24/7 website:

Carolina Beach Is NOT dog friendly. Dogs are not allowed on the beach at any time, even leashed. Never, and you will get a warning then a ticket. We even had a policeman see our dog in our car and follow us to our beach house, pull in the driveway behind us and tell us dogs were not allowed on the beach. We have a 40 pound collie. It is not that big a dog to follow us to the house. I would recommend Oak Island for a dog vacation.
Holmes Lake Dog Run in Lincoln, NE, is a great dog park. It’s big! The little dogs park is the biggest I’ve seen across the country, with trees, tables, & lots of space to run around. Also, not listed on the home page, Hampton Inn – Airport in Lincoln, is dog friendly, and only charges $10 for a dog stay.
My husband and I love to go to New Hope, Pa. New Hope is in Bucks County and is located on the Delaware River. New Hope is a very artsy town with an eclectic mix of people. It is filled with interesting shops and outdoor cafes. We go to “Havana” and hang out at their outside bar with our Australian Shepherd Kelsey. Although you can’t bring your dog to their restaurant, you can order food at the bar and there are a number of other restaurants in town that allow dogs at their outdoor cafes. There is also a dog boutique located right across the street from Havana that you can bring your pooch to.

Your description of Lafontaine Park in Montreal does not mention the fenced, off-leash, area on the south east side of the park.

I am one of three veterinary hospital on the island of Maui that offers direct release on Maui, no more going to O’ahu to bring your pet into the state. The process can take up to 8 months; rabies vaccines, blood test, requesting entry into the state, etc. However it can be done and has been for the last two years. The State of Hawaii’s website offers the details of this direct release program, including having to contract with approved vet hospitals.

My husband and I recently returned from the Paso Robles wine country. Almost all of the wineries we visited were dog friendly. However, the purpose of this note is to let you know about a wonderful thai food restaurant that is dog friendly. The name of the restaurant is called Thai Elephant Restaurant, located at 7320 El Camino Real in Atascadero, CA 93422 (phone: 805/466-6515). Their outdoor patio is charming…it’s very comfortable and tastefully decorated. The food was terrific, reasonably priced with large portions. The service was wonderful and attentive. After a wonderful meal, we asked to see the owner/manager, Vanvipa Poonsopin. We asked if she would mind if we contacted dogfriendly.com about her restaurant. She was very pleased upon learning of our intentions to recommend her establishment and she will welcome all owners and their dogs.
Just wanted to let you know about the best dog park I have ever been to. It is near Gig Harbor in WA. The name is Bandix Dog Park in Kitsap County just off Hwy 16. Lots of trails in the large wooded area that the dogs can run in, chairs and water in the clearings and a large ‘field’ area for ball or frisbee throwing. The amount of work and money that must have gone into creating the park would have been substantial. If only all Counties were like Kitsap ! If any RVers are reading this then I can recommend Gig Harbor RV Resort, very nice friendly people.
You forgot to mention one of the most popular (and famous) off-leash dog parks in Hollywood. Runyon Canyon!!! It’s a great place for people (including celebrity) watching.
