Old Sacramento is a state historic park located in downtown Sacramento, next to the Sacramento River. This National Registered Landmark covers 28 acres and includes a variety of shops and restaurants (see Restaurants). Take the self-guided audio tour of Old Sacramento and learn about life in the 1860′s. There are nine audio stations ($.50 per station) placed throughout Old Sacramento. The California State Railroad Museum is also located here. Dogs aren’t allowed inside the museum, but there are several locomotives outside. You and your pup can investigate these large trains outside of the museum. Dogs are allowed on the horse and carriage rides located throughout town. Top Hand Ranch Carriage Rides will be more than happy to take you and your well-behaved pup on their carriages. (see Attractions). Old Sacramento is located in downtown Sacramento, between I and L Streets, and Hwy 5 and the Sacramento River. Parking garages are located at 3rd and J Streets or at Capitol Mall and Front Streets. There is a minimal fee for parking.

This small town was built in the late 1800s and was a booming mining town. The restored Old Western town now has a variety of shops with wooden walkways. Dogs are allowed to window shop with you. Dogs are also welcome to ride the Virginia & Truckee Steam Train with you. Virginia City is located about 30-40 minutes south of Reno.

Top 200 Places: Utah’s Frontier Movie Town

Some 300 movies and TV shows were filmed here, giving it the name of “Utah’s Little Hollywood”, where several movie sets were left behind with lots of memorabilia. They offer a gift shop, museum, an Old West Costume rental shop, an all you can eat cowboy-style dinner buffet with tin plates and cups (or have coffee and a light snack from their cook shack), and a photo shop. Friendly dogs of all sizes are allowed. They can walk through the gift shop to get to the Frontier Movie Town. Your pet is welcome to join you at the picnic tables, on the grass under the trees, and around the park. Dogs must be leashed and cleaned up after at all times, and they are not allowed in the cook shack.
