Comments:Sleeping with Dogs?one of Life?s BenefitsFor immediate release ? Manchester, CT. The Queenie Foundation, a humane education organization based in Manchester, will hold its 14th annual International Homeless Animals? Day (IHAD) event, Saturday, August 15, 3 ? 7:30 pm at the Hubbard Green, Hubbard Street at Main Street, Glastonbury. The Meet ?n Greet will last all afternoon with an interfaith Blessing of the Animals at 6 pm. Diana Urban, CT Representative for the 43rd District, is the special guest speaker and Sue Mercer from Bikers Against Animal Cruelty will also speak. A candlelight remembrance will follow at 7:15 and the event will conclude at 7:30 with raffle drawings. In the past rescue/adoption organizations have tabled with their literature and donation jars. For the first time since The Queenie Foundation has coordinated this event, rescue organizations will bring their foster dogs to introduce them to the public. Although this isn?t an adoption event because the screening process can take up to three or four days, the public is invited, free of charge, to meet some of Connecticut?s adoptable dogs. Rescues will bring applications so that the process can begin that day. ?Although the main thrust of IHAD is to promote spaying and neutering, we want people to know that there are many dogs (and cats) looking for loving homes in our area. We expect at least 15 organizations to bring some of their fosters to meet the public,? said Enid Breakstone, Founder and Executive Director. The Queenie Foundation, named after a puppy Breakstone rescued in 1995 from the street outside of downtown Dallas (TX), was founded in 1996. She came back to the east coast in 2005 to be closer to family. In addition to operating a rescue/adoption program outside of Dallas run by its vice president, the organization offers spaying and neutering free of charge to low income families and individuals in Hartford and Ellis counties.
