Comments:During these tough economic times, more and more pet owners are unable to care for their pets and continue to surrender these animals to local rescue organizations throughout the South Florida Region. Compassionate Pug Rescue [CPR], a local rescue specializing in Pug Rescue, will be holding the 2nd Annual Pugs & Pooches WinterBark 2010 event to continue their efforts in the community and raise the awareness of non-profit groups, such as CPR, available for those owners who are no longer financially capable to take care of their beloved pets. The event, held on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at the South County Regional Park at Sunset Cove in Boca Raton, Florida from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. will have rescue groups and local vendors educating the public about rescue organizations, information on spay and neutering your pets, caring for your elderly pets, pet supplies and a raffle for various prizes. CPR and other South Florida Animal Rescue Organizations will have available animals and adoptions applications during the event for those interested in having a new addition to their families. ?This event is not only to benefit the needy Pugs, but all of the homeless pets we have here in South Florida. We wanted to expand the idea of rescue, adoption and spay and neuter education to the South Florida Counties and what better way to do it then throw a giant party that the whole family and their dogs can come to, ? said Melissa Antenucci, Event Chair of WinterBark. ?As we feel the pains and swells of the current economic situation on our pets we know that the other breed rescues are feeling it to, so we thought lets invite everyone!? The event will be held at the South County Regional Park at Sunset Cove [Near Canine Cove Dog Park] located at 12251 Glades Road, Boca Raton, FL. Comments:The Whatadog Play Center and the American Kennel Club (AKC) are hosting "Responsible Dog Ownership Day" on Saturday, September 29th from 10am to 2pm as part of a nationwide effort to support adoption, active lifestyles and naturally, responsible pet ownership. Whatadog will host the event at 13247 38th St N, Suite B, Clearwater, FL 33762. There will be resources to help you and your pet lead a healthier lifestyle, including Doga (dog and handler yoga), obedience and agility demonstrations, as well as low-cost vaccinations (10 to 11am) and microchipping provided on-site. Vendors will provide food samples, pet portraits and lots of pet related goodies! Just like their two-footed friends, most dog need exercise and socialization to keep them happy and healthy. the Whatadog Play Center, which opened recently on 38th Avenue near Ulmerton Road, provides this in a cage-free, air conditioned safe environment. Temperment testing is available to see if your dog will thrive in cage-free day care. Overnight boarding is also cage-free, with each family of dogs in a separate play area for the night, with either constant or periodic staff visits. If your dog just needs a bath or nail trim, or even having their teeth brushed, donations will be accepted for these services, which will go to the SPCA. You can take home a sparkly clean, fresh smelling dog! Our newest activity is Puppy 'n Me Playtime for safe socialization, activity and lots of puppy-raising tips to give your puppy the best start in life. Puppies and parents are welcome between 12 and 24 weeks old as long as puppies have the appropriate immunizations and vet check-ups for their age. Check the website for dates. Canine Good Citizen (CGC) evaluation will be provided, including official certification by our CGC Evaluator. CGC tests your dog's manners in ten ways, such as asking that your dog sit politely for petting by a stranger and to walk nicely through a crowd. If your dog does not have these skills yet, don

Comments:Facts about the Walk for the Animals

Since its inception in 1990, the Walk has grown in popularity. Over 3,000 walkers in 2004 helped over $290,000 (another recording breaking year)
The Walk is the HSBC's largest annual fund raising event
All of the proceeds from the Walk benefit the animals in our care
Forming a corporate or family/friends "Pack" (a team of walkers) is a fun way for organizations, families and friends to come together for an important cause
Walkers can earn Goodies - the more money raised, the more goodies one can earn.
With an annual budget of $4 million, the HSBC finds homes for nearly 8,000 animals each year 10 times more adoptions with less money when compared to similar leading animal welfare organizations
The Humane Society of Broward County receives no government funding from national organizations. We are funded 100% by private donations and through special fundraising events such as the Walk for the Animals.
