Comments:Every dog has his day- well not always. Some dogs never have a chance for success, because they are part of the puppy mill industry or under the care of less than scrupulous people. Just A Touch Rescue, Inc is changing that by ensuring ever dog has his day. They believe that the abused and neglected deserve a second chance at life. They take in dogs from puppy mills and abusive homes from around the country and place them into Forever Homes. They need to find more Forever Homes for these sweet sweet dogs. So we are asking for your help. The Big Biscuit is sponsoring a Forever Home adoption day to raise awareness and interest in these wonderful precious sweet hearts. Just a Touch Rescue will be on site with several of their dogs that are available for adoption. You may not be looking for another dog, but they are looking for your support. You could support Just a Touch Rescue by donating some of your time as a foster parent, money to support the expenses of fostering, or goods that Just a Touch may need. The Big Biscuit will be sponsoring a raffle and all the proceeds will benefit Just a Touch Rescue. So, come out, meet the wonderful foster parents of Just a Touch Rescue, meet their precious fosters, and support this good cause. Because with YOUR help all of their fosters could have their day.

Comments:A benefit to raise money and awareness for New England based animal shelters / rescue groups. The Whisker Walk caters to families and their pets and promotes responsible pet ownership / care and education. Each pet rescue organization participating will have a booth and ability to do their own part of the fundraising walk. These shelters and rescues will have their friends, family and adoptee alumni participate ? and/or can participate as much or little as they wish ? but they are NOT required to participate in the actual walk. The animal rescue organizations will share as a collaboration of multiple animal charities all on one property to educate the community about their programs and to have FUN! It?s a unique twist on a walk-a-thon and an event that?s never been done before! A great forum for a public relations campaign encouraging the general public to adopt a homeless pet from one of their local shelters / rescues and of course, and to show-off the wonderful dogs that we?ve all adopted out. This event is NOT limited to dog rescue/shelters (but only dogs are allowed to participate in the walk/event.) Caring for hundreds of thousands of neglected and abandoned animals each year throughout New England is an expensive endeavor and our shelters and programs are growing yearly throughout the region, as is the demand for all of our rescue and animal sheltering services. Since our shelters are NOT funded by the city/state or government every penny really counts! Our New England shelters and rescues count on events such as this to help continue our mission to help the animals of our community and beyond. Come see, do and buy - and HELP THE ANIMALS!

Comments:Greyhound Adventures and Networking Group of Greater Boston, Inc. and Trail Bound Hounds of Southeastern Massachusetts, Inc. announce the 4th Annual Jingle Bell Walk to benefit the Morris Animal Foundation. The Jingle Bell Walk is for greyhounds and their owners to raise money and awareness to support research in canine cancer. This event will take place on Sunday, December 7, 2008 at 10:00 a.m., with a rain/snow date of Sunday, December 14, 2008. Retired racing greyhounds in holiday attire and their adopters will meet at 10:00 a.m. at the Swan Boat Dock and continue around the Public Garden and the Boston Common. The holiday stroll will last approximately 1- 1/2 hours. Festive attire is encouraged and commemorative jingle bells will be given to each greyhound. Last year's event, an amazing site to see, attracted over 75 greyhounds and raised $1,500.00. Greyhound Adventures and Trail Bound Hounds join together each December for the Jingle Bell Walk to promote greyhounds as companion animals and to honor those dogs that have passed on due to cancer and other ailments over the past year. All money raised goes directly to the Morris Animal Foundation to help fund studies in canine cancer research. Both groups are non-profit social dog walking groups that promote adoption and socialization of greyhounds through regular walks, educational events and community outreach in Massachusetts. Comments:On Friday, November 4th, attend a special event to benefit the Massachusetts Animal Coalition by raising funds for those homeless pets in the Gulf States who were victims of Hurricane Katrina. The event will be held at the Clarion Nantasket Beach Hotel in Hull from 7-11 PM. It will include live music from Passions Band, hors d'oeuvres, dancing, a cash bar and an auction. 7News anchor Jeff Glor will emcee the event. Tickets are $20 if purchased in advance or $25 at the door. They can be purchased by calling 617-721-8467. Funds raised will assist the Massachusetts Animal Coalition (MAC) in its efforts to transport displaced Katrina pets into Massachusetts, provide them with extensive medical care and place them in foster homes while efforts are made to reunite them with their original owners. On October 9th, MAC accepted the first truckload of approximately forty dogs, which are currently being cared for by foster families across the state. The hope is to bring in additional dogs over the next few months.MAC has established a special Disaster Relief Fund to pay for the transport of more animals to Massachusetts and help defray the exorbitant costs that shelters and rescue organizations will assume due to the influx of animals. Donations can be made online at www.massanimalcoalition.org.

Comments:It should be no surprise that patients undergoing emergency surgery or cancer treatments are often in need of blood transfusions. But many people may not know the need applies to all patients ? including people and their canine companions. In an effort to meet the ever-increasing demand for safe blood supplies, the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA)-Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston and the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) are hosting the Human and Hound community blood drive on November 4, 2006 from 8am until 2pm. The community drive is thought to be the first of its kind in the area. Owners must make an appointment for their dog and each pet must meet strict requirements before being allowed to donate. Dog donors must weigh 50 pounds or more, be between the ages of 1 and 6 years old, and all vaccinations must be current. In addition, they must have no history pregnancy or blood transfusions. While dogs will be the only animals allowed to donate blood at this event, cats and other pets can donate blood through the Angell Blood Donor Program during regular hours. Just as in dogs, blood is critically needed when people are injured in car accidents, undergoing chemotherapy or surgical procedures. It is a medicine that can only be given from one person to another ? and volunteers are needed on a daily basis. People weighing more than 110 pounds and age 17 or older can visit the MGH bloodmobile on site at the Angell Animal Medical Center on the day of the drive. The state of the art, completely self-contained and self-supporting bus contains two soundproof medical history booths, four blood donation beds plus a refreshment area. A nurse and a phlebotomist will be on hand to facilitate each donor?s visit that usually takes only 30 minutes.

Proceeds benefit such animal organizations as Sterling Animal Shelter, Humane Society: Youth, Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF)), NEADS, Foster Parrots and the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA), to name a few. $500 and $250 awards are also headed to rescue groups and shelters that won our coveted "lottery" and "adoptable dog parade." So far, Pet Rock Fest has distributed well over $75,000 to worthy animal causes in New England. Pet Rock Fest is not only a huge animal event, but a year-round endeavor to educate, promote and communicate with people the importance of treating animals with kindness. Our Web site, www.petrockfest.com, has become a general meeting place for concerned animal lovers to unite and share information and thoughts. On this site, we post animal news, link to important animal-related sites, update you on our upcoming festival and most importantly, provide a forum for folks to chat. Please visit us at www.petrockfest.com. Get involved. Learn more. And remember, they can't talk, so we will.
