Comments:The Ottawa Valley Search and Rescue Dog Association www.ovsarda.on.ca will be hosting a world record attempt for the biggest Dog Stay ever!
The Big Sit will take place at noon on Sunday, May 14th. Registration is open at 10:00 AM. Dogs and handlers from the community are urged to come and join in, by being part of a simultaneous 2 minute Stay. The current world record is 514 dogs, so we'll need a lot of help if we are to surpass it!
This event will be held in 2 locations simultaneously 1. At the Navan Fairgrounds in conjunction with an all-day flyball and disc dog tournament, hosted by Flyball Insanity www.flyballinsanity.com and 2. If you find Tim Hortons, the park is right behind it.If you go to www.wienerfest.com you will find a map, direction, and distance from cities traveled.We also have a yahoo group and a face book page so people can keep up to date on what is happening and who is coming.It is going to be from 10am to 4 pm. We are starting with a fashion show. After that we will be having games, bobbing for wieners and a costume contest. We will also be holding the WIENER RACES!!!!!!!!!!!! It is $7.00 to enter the races and we are only taking 100 racers. You will have to preregister for the races in May. We will not be excepting racers on the day of the race.The race is in a contained area and the dogs will be safe.There will also be plenty of things to see and do. We have an agility course to try out as well as over 40 vendors displaying different items.We will have an on site embroidery service. You can bring any personal article of clothing and have anything you would like embroidered on it. Even the Wienerfest logo.Last year we had 4000 people and over 600 dachshunds.We will be having a BBQ, pizza and ice cream for sale.There will also be a photo booth where you can get your dogs picture taken in the Oscar Myer Wiener Mobile.We are raising money for the Tiny Paws dog rescue of Canada, to rescue dachshund dogs. Tiny Paws is a charitable rescue that rescues and dog 20 pounds and under.Wienerfest proceeds also goes to Helping Homeless Pets. This is an organization of 15 rescues working together to educate the public about rescue, puppy mills and responsible pet care. Together as a group we work on promoting responsible pet ownership and re homing rescued dogs from surrenders and shelters.I hope this answers some of your questions. The event will be held on Sunday, May 31st, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the PawsWay Pet Discovery Centre. Registration begins at 10:00 a.m. Help continue to provide Dog Guides at no cost to Canadians with disabilities by participating in a Walk near you. There is no registration fee and the event is open to all ages, fitness levels and individuals with or without a dog. Help make a difference in someone?s life by supporting Dog Guides today! To register, find a Walk near you, or simply donate please visit www.purinawalkfordogguides.com.About the Purina Walk for Dog GuidesOne hundred per cent of the proceeds from the Walk go directly toward Lions Foundation of Canada and its Dog Guide programs. Lions Foundation of Canada trains Dog Guides to help people who are blind or visually impaired, who are deaf or hard of hearing or who have a medical or physical disability. It costs approximately $20,000 to raise and train each Dog Guide. Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides does not receive any government funding yet all Dog Guides are provided at no cost. These Dog Guides have the ability to make a difference in the lives of Canadians with disabilities.
