Dogs Deserve Better Chain Off 2008
June 28, 2008

Capital Building
Austin, TX
Phone:512-803-2069
Map
Comments:Friends of Doggies:

Attached you will find a flyer for an important event in Austin NEXT SATURDAY AND SUNDAY (June 28-29).

The way this will work is the coordinator of the event, Cheryl Kaminski, is going to chain herself for 24 hours to bring awareness for the plight of chained dogs everywhere. And even though Austin is now a Chain-Free City, we still need to remember that many other cities are not chain free and their dogs are forced to live sad and lonely lives at the end of the chain...their world just out of reach!

I am planning to join Cheryl for the chain off. I will not be chaining myself for 24 hours, though, and you need not either but you can show up and chain yourself for as long as you can. A note to myself and others is that 24 hours really is nothing compared to the 24/7 life of a chained dog.

Please help Cheryl and I in this important outreach by volunteering whatever time you have. You can contact Cheryl at getmethereplease@gmail.com (see flyer for phone number). The more people we have out there, the more effective it will be. And if media comes out, we can really blaze a freedom trail for the chained dogs in our world.

Thanks for your attention to this important matter!

Timothy

Comments:The seminar is called "Bettering Relationships Between People and Dogs" and it is going to be given by talented behavior consultant and aggression specialist, Lee Mannix.

This conference is a full-day seminar designed for shelter and rescue workers, trainers, and other dog enthusiasts. He will help us better understand and handle puzzling and problematic dog behaviors. This is especially helpful to rescuers because after this conference, you will not only be better equipped to rehabilitate dogs in your own program, but to help families who are having problems with their dog so that it never ends up in rescue.

He will discuss temperament testing, explore problematic/abnormal/psychogenic behaviors (from separation anxiety and insecurity to pica and polydypsia), explain the difference between training problems and behavior problems, lead a discussion and question/answer session about aggressive behavior, and more!

If you are interested in attending, we encourage you to register soon: tickets are going fast! The profits from this event will benefit Woodstock Animal Foundation and will go directly to supporting our rescue and outreach efforts in the Brazos Valley.

Comments:Arthritis doesn?t discriminate. It affects not only people of all ages -- including children -- but also strikes our furry friends, too. If you?re a dog-owner, you make sure your buddy takes his heartworm medicine, eats well, looks bright-eyed and playful, and greets you as only a doggy can when you come home. You notice changes in mood and activity, so if your pet isn?t feeling his best you may suspect a cold or stomach virus ? but it could be arthritis. In fact, arthritis affects one in every five adult dogs in the U.S. and is one of the most common sources of chronic pain that veterinarians treat. The Pet Tutor Dog Training of Tomball, Texas is holding it's first annual community event at Juergen's Park in Tomball. In conjunction with the AKC's "Responsible Dog Ownership Day", this event exposes the public of the many non-profit, all-volunteer rescue organizations selflessly working to save dogs lives and find them forever homes. There will be many dogs and puppies available for adoption. In addition, Dog-Fest will have many pet related businesses available to owners when caring for a dog such as groomers, trainers, pet- sitters and many others.

If you are a rescue organization or in a dog related business and want to participate at Dog-Fest 2005 go to www.dogfest.thepettutor.com or call 713-738-8886 to register. Deadline is August 10th. We are also seeking silent auction donations in which proceeds will go directly to the rescue organizations.
