Starting as a Way Station in the early 1800s, it became a permanent settlement to a small group of Mormons who decided to stay in the area. They had been traveling with the rest of the group on their way to what is now Salt Lake City. A memorial, an interpretive panel, a reproduced Mormon cabin, the museum, and picnic facilities are on site. Dogs are allowed on the grounds; they are not allowed in buildings. Dogs must be leashed and under their owner's control.
