This national forest offers 2.3 million acres of spectacular scenery, more than 2,000 of miles of trails, a wide variety of recreational and educational opportunities, and diverse ecosystems that support a large variety of flora and fauna. The forest website offers a trail page that lists the more popular trails and the less populated ones as well. Dogs of all sizes are allowed for no additional fee. Dogs may not be left unattended, and they must be leashed in all picnic areas, campgrounds, and trailheads at all times.
