Starting at Harpster, this historic wagon road follows the southern Nez Perce Trail, and most of the road is still rutted and narrow and more suitable for vehicles with a higher clearance. In July you can join a group tour of the road, or from June through September you can do the self-guided tour following the interpretive signage along the way. There are pullouts where you can pitch a tent; there are no campgrounds, but there are picnic and toilet facilities near the Newsome Creek Cabin. Dogs are allowed along the trail; they must be under their owner's control at all times, and leashed and cleaned up after.
