The visitor center is the place to begin the explorations here with maps, brochures, and interpretive programs being offered. Although the outside areas of the park are open daily, the visitor center is only open Thursday through Sunday and state holidays from 9 am until 5 pm. Interpretive paths detail the Challis Bison Kill Site, the Yankee Fork Gold Dredge/Sunbeam Dam site, and the Ghost Towns of Custer, Bayhorse, and Bonanza. There is also a 90 mile interpretive trail loop from Challis to Custer. Leashed dogs are allowed at all the outdoor sites; they are not allowed inside the visitor center.
