Battles at various historic sites at this park were instrumental in securing the safety of Washington DC in the Summer of 1864, and a self-guided auto tour plus 5 walking trails introduce the historic and natural features of this area that has remained fairly unchanged since the 19th century. Dogs are allowed throughout the park and on the trails; they are not allowed in park buildings. Dogs must be under owner control, leashed, and cleaned up after at all times.
