This 70,000 plus acre refuge is home to cranes, alligators, deer and other wildlife. Dogs must be on leash and are only allowed on certain trails that do not have alligators. Check with park rangers upon arrival to get details about which trails allow pets. To get there from Rockport, take Highway 35 north about 20 miles. Turn right on FM 774 and go about 9 miles to FM 2040. Turn right and follow FM 2040 for 7 miles to the refuge entrance.
