This multi-use trail covers about 34 miles through some of the state's most breathtaking mountain scenery from Abingdon through Damascus to the N. Carolina state line traversing 47 trestles, passing 3 seasonal visitor centers, historic sites, several small communities, and more. They also feature special events including a Dog Sled event. Dogs are allowed on the trail, and they must be kept on no more than a 6 foot leash and cleaned up after at all times. Primitive camping is allowed off trail on non-private property away from waterways.
