Beautiful, easy strolls along the lake, year around interpretive programs, boardwalks over wetlands, scenic trails, historic sites, and more have made this the state's most visited day use park. Dogs are allowed; they must be on no more than an 8 foot leash except during certain times in winter. They must be well behaved, and they are not allowed to be left unattended or tied up. Dogs are not allowed in buildings, picnic or swim areas, marked nature trails, beaches, or playgrounds. They do have a designated pet swim area. Pets are restricted to the area of the beach south of the third beach access; to reach this area, walk your leashed animal from the parking area down the red trail and then onto the beach.
