This recreation area covers 1.5 million acres. The west side of the park is about 25 miles from downtown Las Vegas. We didn't see any designated trails, but leashed dogs are allowed on many of the trails and at the lake. To get there from Las Vegas, take Hwy 146 east to Lakeshore Rd./166. Lakeshore Rd. is the scenic drive along Lake Mead.
