If you’re looking to change up your dog’s protein source, salmon might be a good option. Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, salmon is completely safe for your dog to eat.

How Do I Prepare Salmon for My Dog?

Salmon should be cooked if you are giving it to your dog because raw or undercooked salmon could potentially contain a parasite that causes salmon poisoning disease. Also, raw salmon often contains small bones which could be a choking hazard for your pup.

You can cook the salmon any way you like, but make sure to not use any garlic, onion, oil, or seasoning as these can be toxic for your dog to consume. With any new foods, it’s best to introduce them in moderation, and most vets would recommend that you feed your dog salmon just once a week or less.
