There are only 2 underground known diatomic mines in the country, and this is the only one open to the public. One of the most interesting and unusual geological sites in the Great Plains, this chalk mine was in operation by 1877. Visitors can also enjoy the hiking trails, picnic areas, and the bird and wildlife in the area. Leashed dogs are allowed on site.
