National Key Deer Refuge Nature Center
Located on both the Big Pine Key and No Name Key, this National Wildlife Refuge spans 8,500+ acres, all managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Key deer are a unique species native to the Florida Keys and are protected by this refuge as well as 23 other endangered species. Visitors are permitted to do various non-harmful activities, such as saltwater fishing, walking, wildlife observation and photography, interpretation, and environmental education.
Dogs are allowed at the refuge. Dogs must be kept on a short leash at all times and cleaned up after. They are not allowed in the back country islands in the turtle refuge area. Dogs must also be kept away from the water’s edge because of the danger of alligators.
