Part of the Santa Monica National Recreation Area, Paramount Ranch is a Western Town movie set that has been used in hundreds of televisions shows and movies. Most recently the set was used to film the television show, Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman from 1991 to 1998. You and your leashed pooch can walk around the set and explore the Western Town. Just remember the town is a movie set only so walk carefully on the boardwalks and do not lean or climb on the buildings. There are also a few trails located in this 700 acre park. The Coyote Canyon Trail is an easy .5 mile round trip which follows a small chaparral-covered canyon and climbs to a small knoll overlooking the valley. It is located on the west side of the Western Town. The Medea Creek Trail is an easy .75 mile round trip which loops through the streamside and oak woodlands. From this trail you an reach the Overlook Trail which is another .5 mile one way moderate climb. The Medea Creek Trail starts at the southern end of the parking area. To get to the park take the Ventura Freeway/101 to the Kanan exit and head south for .75 miles. Turn left onto Cornell Way and continue south for 2.5 miles to the main entrances on the right side.
