Stevens Trail
This 4.5 mile trail is a popular year-round hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding trail which follows the northwestern slope of the North Fork of the American River. The trail offers a gentle slope that is suitable for novice hikers. Along the trail you can enjoy great views of the river, pass by several mine shafts, and see the China Wall built by Chinese laborers during the Gold Rush era in the 1850s. Please stay away from the mines because they are extremely dangerous and unstable. In April and May there should be a nice wildflower display. Leashed dogs are welcome. Please clean up after your dog. To get there from Sacramento, head east on Highway 80 towards Colfax. Take the North Canyon Way exit. Take this road past the Colfax cemetery to the trailhead. On weekends and in high use season, parking may be very limited.
