This military park details the operation, siege, and defense of this significant area, and with its surrender how the North gained command of Mississippi River. In addition to a 16 mile road tour, there are over 1300 monuments and markers, a restored Union gunboat, and they are home to a National Cemetery. Dogs are allowed on the grounds,,, they are not allowed in buildings, and they may not be left in vehicles. Dogs must be leashed and under their owner’s control at all times.
